    Nerve centre of rail electrification project is largest letting in Newport city centre for a decade

    One of the largest lettings in a decade will see more than 100 new, highly skilled jobs brought to a prominent office block right in the centre of Newport’s professional district. The former Newport Unlimited headquarters, Norwich House, in Newport’s prestigious Gold Tops commercial and professional district, has been let as a single unit. Network Rail and ABC Electrification Ltd, owned by Alston, Babcock and Costain, will use 1 & 2 Gold Tops, with panoramic views of the city’s mainline railway station, as headquarters for the electrification of the South Wales main line.     Atria Edinburgh, the City of Edinburgh Council’s landmark Grade A office development, has announced it has secured another new tenant for Atria One, resulting in level one being fully occupied. Global firm Aon, the largest insurance broker and provider of risk management services in the UK, has taken the final suite on level one of Atria One, comprising almost 4,900 sq ft of Grade A space, on a ten year Full Repairing and Insuring lease. The firm, which also has Scottish offices in Aberdeen and Edinburgh and employs over 6,000 workers in the UK alone, is relocating from premises on Torphichen Street.  The 55-strong Edinburgh team will take occupation later this month.     Stoford announces Basildon development

    Leading Birmingham-based commercial property developer Stoford today announced it has begun the development of a warehouse and distribution unit in Essex. The new 58,000 sq ft unit is being constructed on Stoford’s 2.3-acre Bas55 site on Paycocke Road in Basildon. Work on the development could be completed by April 2015, said Stoford director Dominic Stokes. Dominic said: “We can confirm that work has begun on a 58,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution unit at our Bas55 site at Basildon in Essex. Benniman Ltd has been appointed construction contractor and we would expect the project to reach practical completion in spring 2015.” He added: “The site has been vacant since we completed the construction of the Driving Standards Agency unit in 2008.     Admiral Group’s newly constructed primary office building in Newport has been sold to leading global Real Estate Investment Trust, W. P. Carey Inc for approximately £20m. The 83,000 sq ft office building, which is let to Admiral Group for 20 years, is part of Scarborough Group International’s redevelopment of the former Cambrian Centre opposite the newly developed railway station.
