    Colliers International secures four new tenants for Baillieston Distribution Centre

    Four new tenants are set to move to Baillieston Distribution Centre, Glasgow, following the completion of extensive refurbishment works at the estate, letting agent Colliers International has announced. Glasgow-headquartered McLellans Transport Company Limited moves to Units 27 and 28 on a three-year lease, on an annual rent of £37,000 (£3.49 per sq ft). J&J Pont Packaging Limited, a supplier of packaging for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food, drink and industrial sectors, has taken a three-year lease on Unit 26 at a rent of £3.75 per sq ft (£19,700 per annum).     Vax invests £1m in new R&D laboratories in Birmingham city centre

    Britain's leading floorcare brand Vax is building new state-of-the-art R&D laboratories and product development workshops at its central Birmingham offices located at 2 Colmore Square. The facilities will house over 50 engineers and scientists working on a range of development projects to improve the performance of Vax's market-leading vacuum cleaner, steam cleaner and carpet washer ranges and to create all-new designs incorporating the latest Vax technologies. These new projects will focus on developing innovative machines that are bagless, cordless, lightweight, high quality and high efficiency. Due for completion in September, this development is the latest phase of Vax's UK expansion and follows the opening of a purpose-built 231,420 sq ft storage and distribution centre at Stonebridge Cross in Worcestershire in August.     Commercial lettings totalling almost 250,000 sq ft were completed in Birmingham during the second quarter of 2014, highlighting the sharp bounce-back in occupier demand for office space, according to the latest quarterly regional office market report from GVA. While 113,741 sq ft of deals were recorded in the city centre market in Q2, this was outpaced by the out-of-town sector, which recorded 134,933 sq ft of lettings. This latest research underlines the growing strength of occupier demand that underpins this renewed confidence: Manchester city centre take-up for Q2 amounted to 484,000 sq ft, almost double the quarterly average, while total take-up in Q2 across the nine cities surveyed was 15% above the five-year quarterly average, at 2.85 million sq ft.
