Storage Giant opens new Kingswinford facility – with incubation space for SMEs

Self-storage specialists, Storage Giant, which already has facilities in Oldbury, Leicester, Cannock and Telford, as well as in South West Wales and the M4 corridor, is further cementing its status in the Midlands by cutting the ribbon on its latest 40k+ sqft facility in Kingswinford.

The fast-growing self-storage businesses began as a single facility concern in 2007, setting up during a recession, and it is now the second largest private self-storage business in the UK. One of the firm’s key functions is to provide low-cost, high-flexibilty incubation space for small businesses and start ups, with more than 2,000 small businesses having set up under the Storage Giant roof since the firm’s inception.

Simon Williams, Managing Director of Storage Giant said: “We are delighted to continue our steady growth in the Midlands with a new site added to our portfolio. Kingswinford is a mix of purpose-built storage units, with over 40 different sized self-storage rooms, as well as 12 high spec serviced office suites, ideal for 1 – 5 employees with broadband infrastructure, an open plan kitchen and meeting room. These past two years have been difficult for all businesses and we are pleased that we have been able to operate smoothly throughout and continue to provide great service to our private and business clients, while supporting much-need small businesses to thrive.

“During our financial year of 2020 to 2021 Storage Giant saw occupancy and revenue grow by more than seven percent and fourteen percent respectively, with nine out of our pre-existing eleven sites increasing occupancy, in part due to a shift in people’s working habits and associated storage needs, and in part because of new start-up businesses aligned to the shift to trading online. Our job creation studies show that our new sites are likely to create hundreds if not thousands of new jobs and will supply vital start-up space for entrepreneurs to set up their businesses with low risk and low outlay costs. It’s clear that certain operators in this sector like Storage Giant can be a major contributor for job creation and much needed economic activity.”

Storage Giant has a stable of other sites which will come onstream shortly – in Bridgend, Witney, Kidderminster and Willenhall, as well as other sites across Wales and the M4 corridor.

They are also due to open new premises at a £30m mixed-use scheme in Nottingham.
