Award-winning coastal hotel in Cornwall welcomes new owners

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has announced the sale of The Marazion Hotel, a renowned coastal hotel located in Marazion, Cornwall.

Offering a unique blend of modern comfort and traditional charm, The Marazion comprises 11 en suite bedrooms, an apartment, restaurant and a bar, as well as a spacious beer garden and a car park.

Situated in the charming coastal town of Marazion, the hotel offers stunning views of St Michael’s Mount and proximity to one of Cornwall’s finest beaches. The picturesque town is a popular tourist destination, attracting nearly 350,000 visitors annually to its scenery and local culture.

The Marazion Hotel benefits from an AA-rated 4 Star Gold Inn rating, reflecting the quality of the establishment. The hotel has also received numerous other accolades including an AA Dinner Award and being a finalist for the Taste of the West Hotel of the Year 2024.

The hotel has been owned by the same family since 1982, who have now decided to hand over the reins to new custodians.

Buyers Sarah Grey, who has family roots in West Cornwall, and Yves Giebens, have recently moved to Cornwall with their young daughter. They will continue to operate the hotel as an independent, family-owned business.

They said, “We are excited to become part of the Marazion Hotel’s long history. With its origins as a coaching inn dating back to around 1700, the Marazion Hotel has a special place in the community. We look forward to working with the excellent team at the hotel to build on everything, and to ensure the hotel remains a welcoming and valued venue for the community and visitors alike.”

Stephen Champion, Director – Hotels at Christie & Co, who managed the sale process, commented, “The Marazion Hotel’s superb location, combined with its year-on-year growth in both revenue and profits, made it an exciting prospect for buyers. We are delighted to see the hotel sold to a buyer with such a strong local connection and wish Sarah & Yves every success as the new custodians of the Marazion Hotel.”

Funding for the acquisition was sourced through Christie Finance. Tamara Ryan, Senior Finance Consultant, added, “I’ve really got to know Sarah and Yves well over the last year or so, and it’s been an absolute pleasure working with them. Given Sarah’s connections to Cornwall, it’s lovely to be part of their journey, starting their next venture in this fabulous location and hotel.

“It is also positive to note that there is funding available to first-time buyers within the hospitality sector. I wish them all the best and I can’t wait to visit them in action!”

The Marazion Hotel was sold at an undisclosed sum, off a freehold asking price of £1,500,000.
