A West Midlands businessman has massively expanded his furniture business with a six figure acquisition.

In a deal put together with the help of property agents John Truslove, Sanj Kumar, who runs the InteriorsItalia store in Darlington St, Wolverhampton, has purchased the
Lawrences Furniture Centre complex at Oxford Street, Kidderminster.

Mr Kumar, who has been 30 years in the furniture retail business, said: “I originally bought the property as a freehold investment but then I decided to trade it on as a going concern

“It is early days but the figures have improved and I am now hoping to develop the business.

“John Truslove and the vendor, who has retired, were very helpful in me taking this forward.”

InteriorsItalia is described as a “contemporary store with furnishings and furniture for the home, including lighting and ornaments”. It employs around seven staff.

Lawrences Furniture Centre has specialised in oak, pine and painted furniture for over 25 years having been established as a general furniture retailer in 1970, sourcing “quality furniture at value for money prices”. It has four employees.

Running to 5,428 sq ft, it enjoys a ground floor showroom with store rooms above.

Ben Truslove, a director of John Truslove, said: “I am so pleased at this deal coming together, preserving jobs and saving a Kidderminster landmark.

“Within Kidderminster town centre, it is in an excellent location on one of the main routes to the Ringway from the public car parks and retail superstores opposite and close to the main pedestrianised retail area.”
