New Screwfix stores secured by Colliers International in South West and South Wales

The Industrial and Logistics team at Colliers International in Bristol has secured four new stores in the South West and South Wales region during the first quarter of 2016 for national trade tool and hardware retailer, Screwfix, as it continues its ambitious expansion across the UK.

Sites have been acquired in Ebbw Vale, Launceston, Newton Abbot, and Port Talbot as part of a target of finding 60 new sites across the UK. Screwfix has enlisted Colliers International on a national basis to identify suitable sites for four successive years.

Unit A, Waun-Y-Pound Industrial Estate in Ebbw Vale, extends to 7,500 sq ft and is located off the A4074, adjacent to Travis Perkins, Howdens Joinery and Robert Price Builders’ Merchants.

Unit 2B Scarne Industrial Estate in Launceston is a new build property which extends to 4,300 sq ft. The unit is positioned next to Launceston Retail Park, which comprises other national occupiers such as B&Q, Lidl, Argos and Pets at Home.

Unit C3, Kingsteignton Industrial Estate in Newton Abbot extends to 4,028 sq ft, and is located just off the A383 Newton Road, near Jewsons, Booker and Halfords. Unit 24, Baglan Industrial Park in Port Talbot extends to 4,750 sq ft, and is positioned next door to HSS Hire, with other occupiers on the estate including City Electrical Factors and Howdens Joinery.

Tom Watkins from the Industrial & Logistics team in Bristol said: “Most of the sites we have acquired so far have been off-market deals that we have managed to secure because agents are aware of what we are seeking as sole advisor for Screwfix, and this has continued in 2016 as we seek appropriate sites.

“We are delighted to have hit the targets set for us by Screwfix three years in a row, despite the fact that stock is very limited at present. We are pleased to have already secured a number of key sites in 2016, with a number of further options in the pipeline.”

Leading building trade supplier Screwfix, which is part of the Kingfisher group, announced in 2013 that it planned to open new stores around the UK, with the aim of ensuring 91 per cent of the population were within a 30 minute drive of a Screwfix store.

In 2014, Colliers International was brought in to locate 60 sites a year with either existing or new build units of between 4,500 and 11,000 sq ft in areas offering good access to population centre. Screwfix now has a total of 466 stores nationally.
