Ex Maidstone Grammar School boy returns to Kent in new role as Commercial Services Executive Chairman

Commercial Services, one of Kent’s largest organisations, has appointed Guy Parsons as Executive Chairman.

Guy has served as Non executive Chairman since September 2013, during which Commercial Services has undergone a transformation programme which included the establishment of two private limited companies, moving its headquarters to new premises in Kings Hill and building a 100,000ft²warehouse in Aylesford.

Guy has extensive blue-chip board level experience at an executive and non-executive level, having previously run Travelodge Hotels and TGI Fridays. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director at London and Partners, YBS Group and is Chair of Nescot.

In his new role, Guy will use his strategic expertise to develop and grow the organisation which currently comprises four Divisions: Education Supplies, Recruitment, Energy and Direct Services. Originally established in the 1930s as a schools supply division, Commercial Services has grown significantly in recent years and now operates in both the private and public sectors, offering goods and services that range from energy procurement, education supplies and recruitment to landscaping, waste management and vehicle maintenance.

Having been born and brought up in Kent, Guy is enjoying his return to the county: “I was surprised by how much has changed, especially in Maidstone, but there is an economic vibrancy here that bodes well for the future.

“In the current climate of public sector austerity, it’s important to remember that our organisation is owned by Kent County Council and our profits go directly back to the council to help them underpin the services it provides for everyone living in Kent. This is at the heart of what we do.

“Commercial Services is a market-leading business that operates in areas that are benefiting from the economic recovery. I intend to help the organisation develop and grow.”
