Summerfield has completed the redevelopment of the former Volvo garage on Priory Bridge Road in Taunton, transforming the long-vacant site into a new 4,820 sq ft industrial facility for Formula One Autocentres.

The prominent site had remained vacant for several years and presented an opportunity for regeneration. It was acquired by Summerfield in 2024, with a pre-let agreed with Formula One Autocentres before redevelopment work began.

Demolition of the former garage began in November 2025, with construction of the new property commencing in January 2026. The development reached practical completion on 20th July 2026, with Formula One Autocentres taking occupation under a new 15-year lease on 25th July.

Formula One Autocentres opened its new centre on 3rd September 2026, joining Enterprise Rent-A-Car at the Priory Bridge Road site and helping to bring the previously underused location back into productive commercial use. The redevelopment also creates potential for further development along the road.

James Holyday, Group Managing Director at Summerfield, said: “We are delighted to have completed the transformation of this prominent site and to welcome Formula One Autocentres to Priory Bridge Road.

“The project has successfully transformed a property that had been vacant for a considerable time into a modern, high quality facility for a well-established national occupier. Securing a 15-year lease demonstrates confidence in both the quality of the development and Taunton as a strong business location.”

Gareth Cross, Regional Manager at Formula One Autocentres, said: “We are delighted to have opened our new centre at Priory Bridge Road. The facility provides us with an excellent base from which to serve customers across Taunton and the surrounding area.

“This new lease represents a significant long-term commitment to the town, and we would like to thank Summerfield and the wider project team for delivering such a high quality facility.”

Nigel Whelan, Managing Director at Devon Contractors, said: “It has been a real pleasure to have once again been working closely with Summerfield Developments and the wider project team to deliver this fantastic new facility.

“We are extremely proud of the finished building and would like to thank Summerfield for placing its trust in our team, as well as Stone + Partners Architecture and everyone involved in the design and delivery of the project.”
