A Redditch-based packaging specialist has expanded into its fourth set of premises as it boosts production and adds to its workforce.

Newtown Packaging has worked closely with commercial property agency John Truslove as it manages a period of major growth.

Chief executive Luke Verrall says the next target would be to secure a major new base in the Redditch area in which to combine all its operations.

The latest move has seen Newtown Packaging take 14,660 sq ft of space at units B2 and B4 on the East Moons Moat Business Centre on Oxleasow Road.

The company has its headquarters in Arthur Street, in Redditch.

Mr Verrall said: “We specialise in adhesive tapes and packaging materials. We needed to expand our production at Arthur Street, which meant finding additional space in just a couple of months.

“We worked with Ian Parker, joint managing director at John Truslove, on the acquisition of Arthur Street and on leasing another two sites in Redditch as the business has grown. So he was our port of call when looking for additional space.

“He found us a couple of possible properties to look at and helped us secure the new space pretty quickly, which is what we needed.

“Our business is based on service and reliability. As well as our core business we supply tape and adhesive equipment all over the world, so alongside our increase in production we needed to maintain reliable delivery to our customers.

“Covid saw a big growth in parcel deliveries, which boosted demand for our packaging and adhesive tapes. That has continued with a growing customer base. As a result our workforce has expanded from 23 to 30 and we will be taking on more people later this year.

“The new unit gave us the additional space we needed, but continuing growth means we have almost filled it already. A large centralised single unit would be more convenient than our four existing premises and that will have to be in the Redditch area – it is an excellent position for supplying customers around the country and all our people live around here.

“When we start looking for a new headquarters we will be talking to Ian Parker and the John Truslove team – no-one knows the commercial property market around here like they do.”

Ian Parker at John Truslove secured the East Moons Moat Business Centre units for Newtown Packaging on a three year lease.

He said: “We have worked closely with the team at Newtown Packaging for many years, helping them find the space they need as the company has continued to grow.

“Assisting firms with the search for the right premises is a big part of what we do, alongside helping our landlord clients find excellent tenants. When it is time for Newtown Packaging to grow again, we will be here to help.”
