“Drive through” shopping launched at Telford’s Tesco store

A new “drive through” service will be launched at a Telford supermarket this month bringing new jobs to the town.

Bosses at Tesco Extra on the Wrekin Retail Park will be launching the Click and Collect service from the new pod which has been built in the car park.

The new service means customers will place their order on line and rather than having to wait in at home for the two hour period they can simply collect their shopping on their way home.

Sadie Griffiths, store manager, said she hoped the scheme would be very popular in Telford.

“The dot com market is huge for Tesco but the one thing people do not like is having to stay at home for that time period after doing an on-line shop.

“We have reacted to that by introducing the Click and Collect so the customer can pick up their shopping all bagged and put into their car for them whenever they like during their allocated slot – on the way home from work, school run or while the kids are at an afterschool club,” she said.

“This is not only going to help our customers enjoy a stress free shopping experience but also create job opportunities at the store.”

Van drivers are being recruited to bring the customer’s order from the back of the store to the new pod which is under construction on the car park. The shopping will be held there at the correct temperature until the customer arrives within their slot to collect.

“We believe it will be popular with parents but also be a popular service for people who are returning from holiday or working away.

“Rather than getting home and then waiting for the delivery, they will be able to literally pick it up on the way home. The customer does not even have to leave their car to load the shopping as the driver will do that for them.

“This is an exciting development for everyone at the Wrekin Retail Park store and we look forward to the opening of Click and Collection on Monday 15th October.
