Triple supermarket signing of 59,000 sq ft for RPMI Railpen

RPMI Railpen (Railpen) has announced the signing of three new supermarkets to its property portfolio: two Lidl stores, located in North West London and Kent, and an Aldi store in Scunthorpe. The trio of new supermarkets total over 59,000 sq ft (5,482 sq m) in retail space.

Situated on the ground floor of St Anns shopping centre in Harrow, Railpen’s first Lidl signing occupies a 16,000 sq ft (849 sq m sales area) space previously occupied by fashion retailer, Primark, whom has upsized into a larger store in the centre. The Lidl store opened on 14 November 2019

Positioned in Gravesend, Kent, Railpen’s second Lidl signing opened on 17 October and occupies a 25,000 sq ft (1,507 sq sales are) unit space within Imperial Retail Park. Both Lidl stores add to the successful supermarket chain’s 770-strong portfolio in the UK.

Joining the duo of Lidl signings, Aldi has signed for a 18,152 sq ft (1,687 sq m) store with Railpen positioned within Gallagher Retail Park in Scunthorpe. The new Aldi will open in early 2020, adding to its portfolio of over 830 stores across the UK

Richard van Lente, Senior Asset & Development Manager at Railpen said:
“Both supermarket brands are significant additions to our property portfolio, and will have a positive impact in each of the areas in which they are to open, particularly with regard to local prosperity and job creation.

“The acquirement of these brands is a direct reflection of our core investment themes and broader strategy to diversify our overall offering whilst generating growth across the UK.”

This announcement follows news of RPMI’s significant investment program at Gretna Gateway outlet village, transforming the destination in Scotland’s premier designer village. RPMI has also recently purchased 5.85 acres of land in Waltham Cross, London, for a speculative warehouse and logistics development.
