Work is underway to deliver an impressive new £2.5 million Midlands headquarters for ambitious construction contractor MCS Group following a ground-breaking ceremony.

The company is entering an exciting new era with the start of construction of its new HQ at the Opus 40 site in Haywood Road, Warwick.

MCS Group staged an official ground-breaking ceremony at the site, attended by managing director Keir Edmonds, group commercial director Alan Shadbolt, and Warwick and Leamington MP Matt Western.

Currently based in Claverdon, Warwickshire, the company is building its state-of-the-art 8,500 sq ft HQ as it enjoys a period of sustained growth in delivering projects across the industrial, storage and distribution sector.

MCS Group believes the move will support staff by relocating close to the centre of Warwick, where they will have access to local amenities including day care, schools, surgeries and shops, and a greater range of housing types.

Keir Edmonds, who established the company 15 years ago, said: “The start of construction of our headquarters marks the beginning of a very exciting era for MCS Group. It is a major investment in the future of our business and our workforce, and is a clear statement of intent – demonstrating how ambitious we are to grow by delivering projects of the highest quality.

“Our new offices will allow us to showcase our expertise in commercial construction whilst providing a gateway statement headquarters building on to the Opus 40 site.”

Matt Western MP said: “I am very pleased to welcome this project. The centrality of this new site is ideal, with the mainline train link within walking distance and the site is easily accessible from the major road networks. The skills base that this will develop is significant and this is an excellent opportunity to create a bespoke office to their requirements, with close by local amenities for staff, including the town itself.”

Being closer to urban centres will help with staff retention and make the business appealing to new employees, added Keir. It will also provide more employment opportunities for both technical apprenticeships and for the less abled. Better access through public transport and the internal design of the building will facilitate this wish of the directors.

The site at Haywood Road presents advantages including:

• Mainline train link within walking distance.
• Local amenities for staff (gym, pub, shops and the town centre itself).
• Easily accessible from major road network.
• Opportunity to create a bespoke office to their requirements.

MCS Group is also keen to demonstrate its corporate social and environmental responsibility by developing premises that are not only sympathetic to its immediate environment but contribute to it as well. The company has supported many local charities, schools and hospices and wishes to continue and develop further ties to Warwick.

Founded in 2003, the company was first based at Stoneleigh Deer Park, now Abbey Park, before relocating to its current base at Claverdon. It currently employs 55 staff, which could rise to 65 once the new HQ reaches completion next year.

MCS Group has set itself a target of doubling its current turnover to around £200 million by 2020 and significantly increasing profits. In the past four years its turnover has increased from £38 million to an expected £110 million this year. Key clients include developers Chancerygate, Opus Land and Richardson.

It is currently constructing warehouse units across the UK and has recently won contracts in Swindon, Kettering, Lutterworth, Hatfield and Bristol. The company has built and refurbished more than 300 car dealerships including Audi, BMW, Mclaren and Jaguar Land Rover.
