Hoxton’s latest coworking hub opens to the community with a flurry of fanfare

International coworking provider, Areaworks, has burst onto the Hoxton and East London scene this week, with a buzzing rooftop launch event, including a BBQ and back-to-back DJ sets.

The event was packed with more than 100 locals, who celebrated the arrival of Areaworks to East London’s “Silicon Roundabout” and local tech community.

Radio Shoreditch’s DJ Reverb broadcast live from the event, alongside a stunning Disco, Funk, Soul, and Hip Hop set from DJ Odin, who has toured with the likes of Rizzle Kicks. They kept guests partying until the early hours in the open plan space, with even more new members chilling on the roof terrace admiring the stunning London views as the sun went down. The whole event really brought the new space to life.

Sparking the sense of community among local entrepreneurs, the space is now open and its spirit of innovation and collaboration struck a chord with the hotbed of local talent.

John Barron was the first tenant to sign up to Areaworks Hoxton on the night following a tour of the ground floor space which led to a flurry of flexible and permanent desk bookings. The Director and Founder of Fresh Brands, a digital marketing and branding agency said, “It’s a great location, and means that I no longer have to work from the kitchen table at home. I am looking forward to the sense of community, and having a place where I can build lasting relationships. It’s great to work somewhere that I will see familiar faces.”

The unique and inspiring space situated on the eclectic Kingsland Road and close to Regents Canal, brings a new way of working to the community for SMEs, entrepreneurs, creatives and freelancers.

Suzanne Willems, Creative Business Coach said, “The feeling of family and the support network here at Areaworks will allow entrepreneurs like me to turn their passions into a business. Members can share social moments and downtime on the terrace, as well as impartial advice on how to thrive in business.”

Areaworks Hoxton is designed to celebrate the old and new of the local area, with the building’s original features teamed with colourful and quirky furniture.

As well as rooftop views of East London, a sun terrace and fully adaptable interior, the coworking space offers 28 full time working desks and 56 flexible desks, 40% of which have been rented out following the launch event.

Isabelle Gomis, Business Analyst at Brittany Ferries, a French holiday cruise company said, “My job is split between the UK and France, so having a permanent base in East London where I can get out of the house and work with peers is great. I love the style and values of the Areaworks team, and the sense of camaraderie among the members.”

Panny Lawrence, Founder and Director of Areaworks, said: “We’re thrilled to be open in Hoxton. Our aim is to help grow the next wave of businesses with an open and supportive environment and a collaborative approach. Our personal and welcoming touch, where everyone is treated equally and involved in the conversation will challenge the idea of traditional businesses and places of work.

“We have had lots of interest from local businesses and freelancers already, with workers in digital marketing, communications and travel having already agreed to join the Areaworks Hoxton family. The straight taking and supportive community proves that these benefits can be enjoyed by companies of any size, and that you should go for it too!

“I’m looking forward to seeing some successful businesses and personalities thrive at Areaworks and use the space as a springboard to challenge out-dated business practices and values and disrupt their respective industries.”

Areaworks Hoxton will be open from 9am – 6pm, 5 days a week, with 24-hour access available upon request. Free tea and coffee, a communal kitchen space and free printing, scanning and photocopying facilities are also available to those who join. Members can strike the ultimate work-life balance with its gym partnership with The Gym Group – a London-based fitness powerhouse which provides quality equipment at affordable prices; all adding to a productive and relaxed environment, with an immediate sense of community and a support network for the entrepreneurial people of the area.
