Britannia Construction has been awarded the £1.2 million fit out contract for a new ODEON cinema at Llanelli’s £20million Eastgate leisure development.

The complex is to include a Costa Coffee which will have entrances from the foyer of the new five-screen, 610-seat cinema with a second access directly from the bus station which is alongside.

Britannia Construction has been delivering all the buildings and infrastructure works at the Eastgate leisure development, due for handover in September. ODEON will be opening at the end of September.

Gareth Davies, director at Britannia Construction says, “We are delighted to have won the contract to fit-out the ODEON, having also constructed the shell. Alongside, Costa Coffee is a great coup for Llanelli and is signalling a huge amount of commercial interest in the Henry Davidson Developments led development being delivered in conjunction with Carmarthenshire County Council.”

Neal Dale for Eastgate developer Henry Davidson Developments said two more major national prominent name signings were expected in June in addition to Travel Lodge, Jenkins Bakeries, and Llanelli Scarlets.

Llanelli Scarlets are taking one of five restaurants within the development including a merchandise shop and cafeteria and Jenkins Bakeries one of the eight retail outlets.

The Eastgate leisure development is unfolding as part of the benefits of a £60million new town birth to which the county’s regeneration teams have attracted Welsh Government and European Development funding.

County regeneration director Dave Gilbert said: “Llanelli’s major regeneration programme will not only transform the town’s look but its fortunes too.”

The attraction of the area as a family entertainment destination will be further enhanced with the completion at the end of the year of the new regional theatre, currently being developed adjacent to the Eastgate site.

Carmarthenshire’s executive board member for regeneration and leisure services Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “You only have to drive by this fabulous development to see Britannia are changing the Eastern gateway to Llanelli at head turning, spectacular and breath-taking pace.

“Everyone I meet is astonished at the speed of deliverance and spectacular new look of the development in what was a derelict corner Llanelli.

“The Britannia team have excelled themselves with their professionalism and considerate building practice and I have had nothing but praise for them from residents close to the site.”
