South Wales-based self-storage specialist, Storage Giant, has just made its third multi-million pound acquisition of another English-based rival.

Storage Giant, which has its headquarters in Newport and 11 branches in Wales and England, has bought Your Self Storage Ltd, based in The West Midlands, in a move that looks set to make Storage Giant the third largest private self-storage company in the UK and the fifth largest overall, taking into account private and public companies.

South and West Wales law firm, JCP Solicitors, acted for Storage Giant and the owner of Storage Giant, Managing Director Simon Williams, said the acquisition brings yet another strategic location into the Storage Giant portfolio. It was undertaken as part of the company’s carefully planned expansion strategy.

“Storage Giant has been growing very steadily – this is the forth self-storage location we have bought in the past 12 months and the third company. We have been very careful which opportunities we chose to pursue as they may not always fit. We have a multi-pronged expansion approach, which looks at various aspects, because it is a priority for me that any expansion is carefully thought-out and not rushed. It is very important that Storage Giant maintains its core principles for both its staff and, of course, for its customers. Storage Giant has always been an extremely efficient and unique self-storage company, with excellent levels of customer service.

“We need to ensure we maintain those same levels going forward, with every acquisition or new store we decide to undertake. We welcome any contact from other self-storage operators who are seeking to exit the sector and would like to discuss a sale with us.

“The acquisition went smoothly and speedily, completing within three months, and I am grateful to JCP Solicitors for representing us in such an efficient, effective and proactive manner.”

JCP Director and Head of Commercial Services, Betsan Powell, said: “It is always good to see a South Wales company thriving and expanding and I am delighted our corporate team could assist Storage Giant to achieve this latest transaction.”

Storage Giant currently has five locations in South Wales, including Newport, Cwmbran, Cardiff, Swansea and Llanelli, with additional locations in South Wales coming soon. It also has stores in Telford, Leicester, Bicester and Cannock, with another store location recently acquired in Kingswinford. Storage Giant also developed the highly successful trading and retail park, Estuary Court, which is located in Newport, and is soon to start development of its flagship mixed use scheme in Brislington, Bristol, where companies such as Starbucks and Greggs have already signed up as tenants.

The seller was advised by Russell-Cooke, London and Kilsby & Williams was the buyer’s accountancy firm.
