Sheffield-based contractor and developer, JF Finnegan are 14 weeks into the construction of McLaren’s new bespoke manufacturing unit within the 100-acre Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Waverley, Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
Work on the 75,000 sq ft building for supercar giant McLaren Automotive began on site in August with completion due next spring.
McLaren Automotive has committed to spending the next two decades at the AMP after agreeing a deal with land regeneration and property investment specialist, and Waverley masterplanner, Harworth Group plc.
The new composite technology centre, which will create around 200 jobs for the region, will build carbon-fibre chassis for future McLaren sports cars and full production will begin at AMP in 2018. McLaren will join other high profile names on the AMP, including Rolls Royce and Boeing.
This project adds to JF Finnegan’s growing portfolio of work carried out in the Sheffield region for the manufacturing sector. Previous schemes include two units for Castings Technology International, a production facility, offices and subsequent extension for Newburgh Engineering and a new machinery facility for ATI Allvac.
JF Finnegan recently completed units 7 & 8 on the Advanced Manufacturing Park for Harworth Group and is currently working for The University of Sheffield on three state-of-the-art research facilities (known as LVV, RTC & ICAIR) on the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). The company also completed of a new distribution warehouse for Tuffnells Parcel Express within Sheffield Business Park back in September this year.
