Wakemans appointed on £26million development

National property and construction consultancy, Wakemans, has been appointed by Travelodge, the UK’s largest independent hotel brand, on a £26 million development at Aldgate, East London.

Wakemans has been appointed to provide a Tenant’s Agent role for a new 395 bed nine storey hotel to be built on Middlesex Street, close to Aldgate and Aldgate East tube stations. The famous Petticoat Lane market also runs alongside the hotel on a Sunday.

Construction began with the demolition of a former commercial building and includes a new pedestrian thoroughfare which will provide access for the site.  The contractor is Tolent Construction and the scheme is due for completion in April 2018.

Wakemans senior associate director Nigel Himpson says: “We are delighted to continue our long standing relationship with Travelodge on this important project in the capital, one of the largest projects that Travelodge currently has under construction.”

Peter Gowers, Travelodge Chief Executive said:

“The march of the low-cost hotel sector continues, fuelled by businesses looking to reduce travel costs and the new generation of independent leisure travellers.  To meet this growing demand we are delighted to have started construction on our new flagship 395 room hotel with Bar Cafe in the heart of the City of London.  Together with the 15 new hotels we expect to open this year, this will continue the ongoing transformation of Travelodge into a high quality, low-cost brand for both business and leisure.”
