Major Asda regional distribution centre in Lancashire being offered to let by Colliers International

A former Asda regional distribution centre near Wigan, Lancashire is being marketed to logistics businesses and retailers by the Manchester office of real estate advisors Colliers International.

The 322,000 sq ft (29,941.26 sq metre) purpose-built hub on Wheatlea Industrial Estate, Wheatlea Road, Wigan was constructed about 25 years ago and closed in June 2016 when the supermarket giant transferred its operations to a larger site in Warrington.

Acting on behalf of Asda, the specialist industrial and logistics team at Colliers International is offering the complex to let.

Located on the A49 with direct access to junctions 25 and 26 of the M6 and the wider road network, the facility is racked with 28 dock level loading doors, six drive-in loading doors, two-storey office accommodation, parking for cars and HGVs, a fuelling station, CCTV and gatehouse access.

Other nearby occupiers include Premier Inn, SCA Packaging, Poundland, Sainsbury’s, B&M, Homebase and Aldi.

John Sullivan, director, industrial and logistics at Colliers International Manchester, said: “Purpose-built regional distribution centres such as this formerly occupied by Asda rarely come to market and are therefore in great demand among businesses including those involved in logistics and retail, both bricks and mortar and online.

“We anticipate a great level of interest and believe we will achieve a swift letting to another major player wanting to bring jobs and investment to the Wigan area.”
