A landmark deal will see a hi-tech West Midlands company that manufactures single-use instruments for the medical sector move to new premises in Solihull.

Birmingham-based chartered surveyors Johnson Fellows, and joint agents BNP Paribas, have secured Blink Medical Ltd for Unit 3, Highlands Park, Solihull, after being appointed by developers Graftongate to find a tenant.

The unit – the latest new build in the area – is the final speculative phase following the development of 57,000 sq ft in two earlier pre-sale developments, all aimed at meeting demand for high-quality Grade A industrial units.

Two were sold to a self-storage operator and an electrical wholesaler, while Blink Medical Ltd – currently based 10 miles away at Birmingham Business Park – agreed a 20-year lease on the 13,382 sq ft unit shortly after the building reached practical completion.

Mike Price, partner at Johnson Fellows and head of the industrial agency team, said swift completion of the deal and achieving a record-breaking rent for the region was testament to the quality of the unit.

“Blink Medical Ltd was looking for new premises as it looks to grow its already established business and the developers, agents and clients worked closely with the team to bring it to Highlands Park,” he said.

Jamie Hockaday, Graftongate director, said: “We were confident that the Solihull area was ready for speculative development and this premium scheme has proven that to be the case. We are delighted to have attracted a company of Blink Medical Ltd’s calibre to Highlands Park and look forward to welcoming it to the estate.”

Andrew Cosnett, director at BNP Paribas, joint agents for the scheme, said: “This is a landmark deal that has resulted in Blink Medical Ltd being in the enviable position of moving to a new build grade A quality property. Not only this but a very good rental income has been secured for our client as well.”

Roger Tyler, founder and managing director of Blink Medical, which was represented by CBRE, said: “This new facility will enable us to continue to grow as a business, expanding our product range as well as reducing our lead times to both the NHS and our global distribution network. It will also enable us to begin our latest phase of local job creation as we will be looking to fill nine new positions within the organisation.”

Blink Medical manufactures a comprehensive range of sterile, single-use surgical instruments for outpatient and theatre departments and was the UK’s first stand alone supplier of single use instruments and customised instrument sets. It sells into 20 countries worldwide.

Highlands Park is located within the Highlands/Monkspath industrial and office area of Solihull and is conveniently located two miles from junction 4 of the M42 and is close to the A34.
