Howzat as Portsmouth take honours from Southampton

Cricket players from Southampton Property Association, in yellow, and Portsmouth Property Association (PPA), with victorious PPA captain Andy Hellier holding the fiercely-contested trophy.

It’s not quite The Ashes but the contest is fought with as much passion and determination as England against the Aussies.

The fifth annual fixture between Southampton Property Association (SPA) and Portsmouth Property Association (PPA) saw Portsmouth take the honours with 168 runs against 139.

Match organiser and SPA captain Russell Mogridge, a director at regional real estate advisor Hughes Ellard, said: “As always, the match is full of good-natured but fierce rivalry and it was our turn to relinquish the trophy following a fine batting performance from PPA.”

SPA, which fielded first, leads the series overall with three victories to PPA’s two since SPA won the inaugural match in 2007.

The event, which consisted of 18 overs each and was held at Fareham & Crofton Cricket Club ground in Fareham, included post-innings drinks, sponsored by accountancy BDO, and a barbecue.

Both networking property associations have hundreds of members, including chartered surveyors, lawyers, architects, accountants and estate agents, and raise thousands of pounds each year for charity.

The match took place on Wednesday evening (August 3rd).
