Job fair hailed huge success

A Shropshire jobs fair was swamped with so many people wanting to join an expanding cleaning company a second event has had to be organised, the company boss said today.

Kelly Ward, owner of Mrs Mopp Cleaning Services, said she was overwhelmed by the huge number of people who turned out at the job centre in Shrewsbury yesterday. (FRI)

Mrs Ward launched the special recruitment drive after announcing she would be expanding her Telford based company into Shrewsbury.

Despite advertising the event in advance asking people to pre-book an interview slot, Mrs Ward was inundated with people turning up to apply for the jobs without booking.

She said: “I had six people booked in for interview after getting swamped with applications over the last few weeks since I announced the expansion.

“But a total of 27 people turned up on the day within minutes of the fair starting. It was unbelievable and totally unexpected.

“This just shows there are eager and willing people out there wanting to earn a living.

“A further 15 people left their contact details for me to call them and then a further nine applicants who I am really keen on interviewing are still outstanding as I just didn’t have time to fit them in.

“This was a fantastic and totally unexpected response and just shows the hard working people we have in Shropshire.

“I will be offering as many jobs as possible and will then keep the details of any other successful candidates for further expansions which could now be sooner than expected as I have so many keen potential members of staff.

“I will now have to set up a second jobs fair to give all of the remaining people the opportunity for interview as it’s not their fault so many turned out.”

The mother-of-four set up her company in 2008 when she cleaned all of the properties on her own. She now has a team of “moppettes” in Telford and will now have second team working in Shrewsbury.
