One of the leading agents of the region’s commercial property market has been appointed as a Partner at Watson Day Chartered Surveyors. Richard Turnill’s arrival strengthens a team which provides a range of commercial property services across Kent and the South East.

Richard bolsters an already formidable team line-up which includes Partners Nick Threlfall, Ian Gutteridge, Julian Scannell and Kevin Dempster. The four founded Watson Day in 1989.

The Kent-based consultancy specialises in industrial and office space, with a proven track record for servicing major schemes on behalf of institutional clients, property companies and private individuals. It has inspired many significant transactions with schemes including offices, industrial, land and investments – with transactions spanning a wide range of values from small industrial units to large office schemes.

Senior Partner Nick says: “Richard is a first class agent, a heavyweight with considerable experience of this highly specialised and complex area of the business. He has an excellent background and as our newest partner we are confident he will make a huge contribution to our business.

“We are long-time admirers of his work. Richard shares our values and ethos and is a perfect fit for Watson Day. The partners are delighted he has joined, and he has a vital role to play in taking the business forward as we enter a new and exciting era of growth.”

Talking of his decision to join Watson Day, Maidstone-born Richard says: “I have known the partners for many years, both in a professional and private capacity, and in a way they have mentored me since the early days of my career.

“I’ve always been a big admirer of how the partners run the business, and how they have developed and maintained a reputation for excellent customer service.

“The partners want me to play a major role in taking the business forward and I’m determined to repay the faith they have in me. We have plans to expand but it’s going to be evolution, not revolution,” adds Richard.

Watson Day’s expertise and reputation has been highlighted by the highly regarded commercial property magazine Estates Gazette, which recognised the firm as a Most Active Agent in Kent winner in 2014.

Richard was educated at Maidstone Grammar School and graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2005. He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2007, following a graduate position at Cluttons. In 2009 Richard joined Glenny LLP’s South East London and Kent Business Space Agency team, heading the office from 2012 to 2016.

At Watson Day, Richard will be responsible for agency development, management and professional matters. His specialism is industrial agency, with recent projects including land acquisition, development advice and agreeing industrial pre-let deals. He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Richard lives in Bearsted and is married with two young boys. He has a wide range of interests, including rugby, hockey, sailing, cycling, DIY and gardening.
