New H&M flagship store for Covent Garden

H&M, one of the world’s largest fashion retailers, will open a new flagship store in Covent Garden, London later this year. The store will occupy a historic 19th century warehouse building within Mercers’ Yard, a major retail development due for completion this Autumn.

The Warehouse Building at Mercers’ Yard is a central element of the Mercers’ Company’s masterplan for its Covent Garden Estate. The building is part of a significant retail, restaurant and residential scheme due for completion later next year. The scheme is the latest phase of the Company’s plans in the area and will link, across Mercer Street, with its joint venture investment with Shaftesbury at St.Martins Courtyard. Timed for the arrival of Crossrail to the north of this area, the development is also part of a longer term plan to create a new thoroughfare in Covent Garden. Running east-west from St.Martins Lane to Neal Street with courtyards and open spaces throughout, it will be truly mixed use in nature and will breathe new life into this area of London.

Bill Scarborough, Chairman of Long Acre Estates (the Mercers’ Company’s real estate board) said “we are delighted to secure H&M as the anchor retailer for Mercers’ Yard.  It is important to the Company that the redevelopments retain the Covent Garden character and this refurbished warehouse building does just that. It forms the centrepiece not just for Mercers’ Yard but our entire Covent Garden Estate, providing a superb retail flagship store.”
