Government must deliver on airport expansion promise to end uncertainty for businesses, urges Vail Williams

Following the Airports Commission recommendations for a new third runway at Heathrow airport yesterday, Government must honour its promise to reach a decision before the end of 2015 to remove uncertainty for commercial property owners and occupiers, according to property consultancy Vail Williams.

Welcoming Sir Howard Davies’ report, experts at Vail Williams are calling on Government to rule on the proposed airport expansion definitively and without further delay.

“An additional runway at Heathrow or Gatwick will bring increased capacity, jobs and confidence in the regions, as well as improved connectivity for long-haul markets and domestic routes,” commented Matt Clarke, Vail Williams Partner.

“The Davies report has made clear its recommendation for Heathrow and – while there is still good argument for pushing for the expansion at Gatwick – we now need Government to make a final decision. Business in both areas is in a holding pattern pending the outcome – impacting on investors, developers, landlords, occupiers, and others. This is a hugely exciting time and we now need to move forward in favour of development and progress for continued economic growth as a leading force in the global market.”
