Pet store expands into Brighton

The South’s largest independent pet store chain has opened sizeable new premises on a long lease next to Sainsbury’s on a prominent site in Brighton.

PamPurredPets has taken the 4,466 sq ft (415 sq m) unit at 227-233 Preston Road as it expand its portfolio of 48 stores across the South and West.

Property consultancy Myddelton & Major successfully negotiated the acquisition of a new 20-year sub-lease from Sainsburys on behalf of PamPurredPets Ltd in an off market transaction.

The new retail unit on Preston Road shares customer parking with the adjoining Sainsbury’s convenience store.

Simon Lee, retail partner at Myddelton & Major, said: “This is a prominent site next to a new convenience store on the busy main road at Preston Park.

“As the leading independent chain of its kind in the South and West, PamPurredPets quickly saw the opportunity to expand onto a prime site with strong traffic flows and the benefit of customer parking.

“By signing a long lease the company has demonstrated its confidence in the market, created a number of  jobs and brought benefits for the local economy.”

PamPurredPets, which is based in Verwood, Dorset, was founded in 1981.
