Over 100 riders took part in this year’s Wooden Spoon ‘Valeride’, a gruelling 51 mile ride around the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan’s lanes & coastline.The brand new route proved challenging with several tough climbs but everyone made it round safely in between 4 & 6 hours.
Sponsored by Brains Brewery & The Vale Resort, the event attracted both regular & casual cyclists of all abilities including teams from Brains, Morgan Cole, Cowbridge RFC, WRU, Watkins & Gunn, & HLN architects as well as former Welsh International full back Rhys Williams.
Former International referee & committee member Clive Norling was also on hand to keep discipline with his yellow & red cards & whistle the riders off.
Several members of the Wales committee took part whilst others kept the riders fed & watered en route & welcomed them home.
Huw Thomas Chairman of Wooden Spoon Wales said it is anticipated that over £5000 will be raised for projects in Wales.
