Leading commercial building, project and sustainability consultancy Jones Hargreaves has opened a seventh office in response to increased demand which saw turnover increase by 20% in 2024. In the same period the firm’s expert in-house team grew by 25% to a headcount of 40. Located in Birmingham, the new office will service existing and new clients across the Midlands.

Jack Birchall and Harry McDermott, associate partners at Jones Hargreaves, who have over 18 years’ combined commercial property experience, have relocated from the firm’s London office to lead the new Birmingham location. They will work with a range of investors, owners and occupiers across industrial, retail and office portfolios from Jones Hargreaves’ new office at Somerset House on Temple Street in the city centre.

Birchall has extensive experience in the commercial sector including dilapidations, tenant alterations and technical due diligence, having worked at Jones Hargreaves for three years. McDermott is an experienced building surveyor across all commercial property sectors who primarily focuses on technical due diligence, dilapidations, planned preventative maintenance and contract administration instructions. Both joined from Hollis Global.

The new Midlands office is opening in direct response to client demand, with ongoing instructions in the region received from clients including Indurent, Adapt Real Estate and Gilbanks, where Jones Hargreaves is advising on the £2m fit out of a new 20,000 sq ft serviced office space in the heart of Birmingham’s business district at Five St Phillips.

Jack Birchall said: “It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to open our new Birmingham office and dive into the Midlands’ thriving commercial property sector. The city itself has seen a lot of growth in recent years and it’s exciting to be part of that. I was keen to relocate to Birmingham as it’s a great city, with so much to offer, and this was the perfect time for me both professionally and personally. This opportunity highlights the culture of the business and the trust in the team.”

Harry McDermott said: “Jack and I are very excited to be leading Jones Hargreaves’ new office in the ‘UK’s second city’. We have a strong existing client base in and around Birmingham and across the Midlands and we’re looking forward to building on that. I applaud Jones Hargreaves’ ethos of supporting the career aspirations of the team which has enabled me to progress my career and move back to the West Midlands, where I’m originally from, with the same company.”

With offices in Manchester, Leeds, London, Bristol, Glasgow, Cardiff and now Birmingham, Jones Hargreaves’ services include project management and building, MEP, sustainability and ESG consultancy. Its clients include Columbia Threadneedle, ESR, Indurent, Motcomb, Fidelity, Elite Partners Capital and Mileway.

Matt Williams, partner at Jones Hargreaves, added: “The opening of our seventh office aligns with our business expansion strategy to meet ever-increasing client demand for our commercial building consultancy and ESG services across the UK, particularly in the Midlands.

“I’d like to extend my congratulations to Jack and Harry, who I have no doubt will make a fantastic impression within the Midlands’ burgeoning commercial property sector. As valued members of the team, we’re delighted to support them in both their personal and career aspirations. It’s a win-win as we retain fantastic people in the business and clients across the Midlands benefit from their vast experience and the local knowledge they offer.”
