Breezing into Portsmouth

A motoring group has expanded its commercial vehicle operation and is to open an approved Volkswagen service and used van operation in Portsmouth.

In a deal through regional commercial property consultancy Hughes Ellard, Breeze Volkswagen has signed a lease for two units at one of the city’s principal trading estates, The Airport Estate.

Units C3 and C4, totalling 650 sq m (7,000 sq ft) of interior and forecourt space at Nevil Shute Road, Portfield Industrial Estate, will be occupied by Breeze Volkswagen later this month (MARCH), with an initial six new jobs being created.

Established in August 2000, family-owned Breeze Volkswagen employs more than 200 local people in Hampshire and Dorset.

In October 2004 Breeze acquired the Volkswagen Van Centre in Totton, near Southampton, and in 2007 established trade parts centres in Bournemouth and Southampton (TPS), which supply trade parts for the all Volkswagen group brands and product.

Tim Treweeks, head of business for the Southampton operation and the new facility, said: “Our new service centre at Portsmouth will provide the only approved facility for the servicing of Volkswagen commercial vehicles.

“Our existing customers have to currently travel to Southampton and clearly our new facility provides a great solution.

“We will also offer a range of Approved Volkswagen Used Vans at the same location and we anticipate growing this aspect of the business as well. ‘We very much look forward to looking after our customers in a manner that they both expect and deserve.

“The property deal went through smoothly and we’re grateful to Hughes Ellard for the exemplary way matters were conducted on behalf of the landlord.”

Harnish Patel, a business space agent for Hughes Ellard, which has offices in Fareham and Southampton, said: “Breeze is a well-respected name in Bournemouth and Southampton and the expansion is good news for Portsmouth, by way of jobs and consumer choice.”

Hughes Ellard acted for the family-owned Hargreaves Group, based in Rustington, West Susssex, which has developed and retains nearly 280,000 sq m (3m sq ft) of commercial properties in south-east England.

In a separate deal on the same trade counter site, fitted kitchen wholesaler SDA Kitchens has let 325 sq m (3,500 sq ft)

Rental details in both deals have not been disclosed.

Other occupiers in the vicinity include Graham Plumbing Merchants, Plumb Centre, Newey & Eyre, Water Weights Limited, Edmundson Electrical, Avis Car Rentals and The Range, which is opening shortly.

The self-contained trade counter units were refurbished in 2010 and are located two miles north east of the city centre and 1.5 miles south west of the junction of the A27 and the A2303 (Eastern Road). Hilsea railway station is just up the road.

Hughes Ellard is the sole agent for Portfield Industrial Estate.
