Leasing success for The Mercers’ Company with prime office space fully let

The Mercers’ Company has completed the final phase of its refurbishment programme at Becket House, its c.42,000 sq ft of prime office space on the City estate. Becket House is now fully let, all within six months from the completion of works.

Offering exceptional workspace in the heart of the City, Becket House is a key asset within the Mercers’ Company City estate. The building has been comprehensively refurbished and repositioned over the last three years, with the final 21,000 sq ft having undergone a £6 million refurbishment, encompassing three office space floors, the reception area and the addition of new cycling facilities. Adjacent to Bank station at 36 Old Jewry, Becket House captures the evolving demands of office tenants returning to the City, with a Category B fit-out on offer to suit the current needs of businesses.

Incorporating high-quality finishes with wellbeing amenities and top end-of-journey facilities, Becket House offers a private terrace on each of the three newly refurbished office floors. The third floor has a fully fitted plug & play layout, providing the optimal mix of open-plan desks, meeting rooms and collaborative and breakout spaces, whilst the fifth and sixth floors offer tenants the opportunity to shape the space as they desire. As such, the office space has attracted three first-rate tenants. Leading Scandinavian law firm, Schjødt, specialist recruitment agency, Opus Recruitment Solutions and corporate finance and wealth management agency, Northall Advisory Partners, have all selected Becket House as a home for their operations.

Peter Gray, Partner, Knight Frank, added: “The City office market is increasingly seeing a flight to quality. The Mercers’ Company’s refurbishment of Becket House, with the addition of welfare facilities and external terraces, is a direct response to this and supports the post covid return to the office. We are delighted to have completed on all floors in such a short period of time.”

Veronika Sillitoe, Partner, Ingleby Trice commented: “The successful disposal of all three floors just six months post launch is a testament to the attractive refurbishment and the Category B fit out delivered by the Mercers’ Company. Understanding and forecasting tenants’ evolving requirements are key to ensuring leasing success and we look forward to the launch of the next project within the Mercers’ Company’s portfolio already underway.”

Joining Becket House within The Mercers’ Company City portfolio is the final phase of the estate, The Whittington Building. Located at Frederick’s Place, the new 30,000 sq ft office scheme has been designed by Stanton Williams and is due for completion in early 2024.

Becket House’s leasing success within the Mercers’ Company City estate enhances the landlord’s sustained reputation within the capital and follows the news that Diageo, maker of Guinness, selected The Yards, Covent Garden to home ‘Guinness at Old Brewer’s Yard’, a £73million investment due to open in Autumn 2023.
