‘Escape to the country’ for firms as historic hall transformed into flexible workspace

An historic West Midlands hall has been transformed into a new flexible workspace by two entrepreneurs who want to bridge the gap between working from home and escaping to the country.

Blackbrook Hall, which was once home to world renowned architect James Wyatt, has been converted into 12 office suites after undergoing an extensive programme of refurbishment. They are now available to rent on all-inclusive packages.

Friends Kevin Sharkey, of property development and investment company Key Land Capital, and Peter James, of Connect PDI, acquired the property at Weeford, between Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield, in January for an undisclosed sum. The Grade II listed building will be the new headquarters of both companies.

Peter said: “When Kevin and I decided to invest in Blackbrook House we were attracted by the opportunity to create something quite special and unique for the benefit of small businesses in the region.

“What we now have is a business centre that bridges the gap between a traditional office and working from home. We’re in the heart of the countryside, while still being very easy to access from places such as Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield and Tamworth. There is a communal breakout space, which occupiers can use or where their children can do homework after the school run.

“The grounds are ideal for dog walks should you wish to bring your pet to work, and there is an on-site café. Blackbrook Hall is also on an excellent cycle route, so you can leave the car at home if you prefer.”

Kevin said: “It has been a joy to breathe new life into such an historic building which was in a sorry state and had been vacant for a couple of years. We have undertaken a thorough programme of refurbishment and created superb office suites which will suit a range of small businesses.

“Blackbrook Hall is in a fantastic location, being just a short drive to both Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield, adjacent to the A38 but with views of the countryside. I’m sure the combination of wonderful period features and high-tech business facilities will appeal to many small businesses that may be outgrowing working from home.” A 600 sq ft show suite is available to view.
