IoD Director General to deliver major speech in Worcester

Simon Walker, Director General of the Institute of Directors, is to deliver the forthcoming University of Worcester Annual Lecture.

It will focus on the role of business groups in influencing government and will go ahead at the Yelland Lecture Theatre at the university’s St John’s Campus on March 5 from 5.30pm.

John Phillips, IOD regional director, said: “This will be an opportunity to listen to a thought provoking lecture on an issue which is hugely important.

“All sorts of lobbying groups are in a constant battle to influence government and it is vital that business is at the forefront.

“The business message matters because only a thriving business sector can produce the jobs which are so desperately needed, particularly in the West Midlands.”

Tickets are free but must be applied for.

Mr Walker was once chief executive of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, a previous holder of senior executive positions at Reuters, British Airways, and Brunswick Group, and a former member of the Better Regulation Commission.

He also served in Buckingham Palace as Communications Secretary to The Queen and at No.10 Downing Street as a special adviser to Prime Minister John Major.
