New European HQ of large clothing and homeware retailer in Watford

One of the UK’s leading specialist interior fit-out contractors has completed its major £2.2 million contract at the new European headquarters of a large clothing and homeware retailer in Watford.

EE Smith Contracts, which is based on the Clarendon Industrial Estate in Leicester, has been involved in the landmark project with global construction services company ISG to create the new £93 million office space for around 1,500 employees at the retailer.

The specialist team from EE Smith Contracts has installed 1,600 linear metres of European oak timber perimeter ceiling bulkheads which are spread across ten floors together with all of the specialist feature joinery in the building.

The new headquarters on Clarendon Road opposite Watford Junction railway station also feature specialist acoustic slatted walls, and moss walls as features.

Tomas Semionovas, Contracts Manager at EE Smith Contracts, said this has been a really exciting project to be involved in over the last 13 months for the high street retailer.

He said: “The finished result is fantastic and we hope all the staff enjoy working in their new surroundings once the lockdown rules are eased by the Government.

“There is a unique office design feature with working spaces featuring different themes such as the ‘the world’s smallest jazz club’, ‘The Sports Cabin’ and ‘The Dogs Meow’ which will allow employees to transport themselves to a peaceful yet styled space to complete their work.

“There are also numerous focus booths, collaboration booths, an IT Tech Bar and a Juice Bar to provide a working space for every imaginable work task.

“There was also a specialist PVD finish to all the metalwork which not only looks great but is long lasting and hard wearing.

“We also installed the concierge and reception desks, timber slatted TV walls, Laudescher wall and ceiling panelling, resource and tea points, snug stairs, and the Tree House seating and trellis.

“We used materials like natural stone and Corian which give a really contemporary feel at the location which has been TJX Europe’s headquarters for over 20 years.

“It has been great to work with ISG and to have been part of the supply chain to produce this wonderful building.”

EE Smith Contracts has worked on a number of prestigious international hotels in London – including The Londoner, the Grosvenor House, The Langham and The Savoy – along with commercial buildings including the HQ of the Union Bank of Switzerland and is currently involved at 8-10 The Broadway in London, and super-prime residences.
