Chamber backs WMG Academy

The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce is backing plans to develop a WMG Academy for Young Engineers at the University of Warwick.

A consultation on the plans started on November 6 and is due to end on January 7, 2013 and the Chamber has added its support.

Chief executive Louise Bennett said: “We have campaigned for many years on skills and delivering the type of education that our young people need to prepare them for the real world of business.

“Skills in IT, engineering and digital technologies are not only going to be crucial for the future, firms are crying out for them now.

“So we are right behind these plans and are urging other businesses and stakeholders to look at the plans for themselves and take part in the consultation.”

The Academy will be part of a new and exciting “learning campus” that will be created on land adjacent to the Westwood Academy. The Academy will cater for 14 to 19-year-olds from Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull. It will focus on engineering, ICT and digital technologies.

WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group) and The University of Warwick are partners in the development of the new Academy and are working with stakeholders from across the city and the county.

An open evening is being held on November 27, 2012 and details on that, the consultation and a questionnaire can be found on their website at www.abetterwayoflearning.co.uk
