MCS Group completes distribution park hat-trick

Construction contractor MCS Group has completed a high quality hat-trick after delivering its third multi-million pound warehouse unit at a distribution park in Staffordshire.

The construction of the 129,550 sq ft unit at CONNEQT, in Cannock, has reached practical completion. The unit includes 12 loading docks, 16 trailer spaces and 12,130 sq ft of offices.

West Midlands-based MCS Group was appointed by developer Opus Land to build the unit, known as CONNEQT 130, after it completed an adjacent 153,635 sq ft unit, known as Alpha, at Kingswood Lakeside business park, Blakeney Way. The units are being marketed by agents JLL and Avison Young.

Industrial, storage and distribution construction specialists MCS Group also built an earlier phase – a 100,000 sq ft unit – for Opus Land, now occupied by First Choice Group. The building was awarded ‘Commercial Development of the Year’ in 2017 by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

MCS Group managing director Keir Edmonds said: “We really enjoy working alongside Opus Land and this is the third unit we’ve completed at CONNEQT on their behalf. It has been another excellent project and we are delighted to have delivered it on time and on budget.

“We’re proud to have played our part in creating an outstanding business park in a first class location, with links to major motorways right on the doorstep.”

The Kingswood Lakeside site was acquired by Opus Land and Bridges Fund Management, which has already delivered units occupied by Veolia, First Choice and the APC regional distribution hub on adjoining plots.

Victoria Turnbull, joint managing director at leading development and investment company Opus Land, said: “This is reflective of one of the many high quality industrial projects Opus Land is currently involved in and MCS has again delivered the scheme on time, on budget and to an extremely high quality.”

Funding for the project came from Bridges Fund Management, Finance Birmingham and a grant from Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP).

Award-winning MCS Group is enjoying a period of sustained growth in delivering projects across the industrial, storage and distribution sector. The company has also built and refurbished more than 300 car dealerships including Audi, BMW, Mclaren and Jaguar Land Rover since its inception in 2003.
