Hinkley effect aids sale of 13,800 sq ft warehouse in Bridgwater

GVA has successfully sold the freehold of a 13,800 sq ft warehouse in Bridgwater at a guide price of £1million.

Acting on behalf of long-established local company Bastins Ltd, GVA secured the sale of the premises at 2 Robin’s Drive, Apple Business Park in Bridgwater, to an expanding local manufacturer.

Family firm Bastins, which owns a number of retail outlets across the South West selling greetings cards and giftware, decided to relocate their head office and warehouse facility to new purpose-built premises at Beech Business Park in Bridgwater, better reflecting the needs of their business.

Byron Hammond of GVA said, “The unit at Robin’s Drive not surprisingly attracted a great deal of interest given its freehold status and large secure yard area. Commercial values in Bridgwater are growing rapidly, partly due to the Hinkley Point effect but also driven fundamentally by the lack of stock available across Somerset.

“As the supplier stream builds for development at Hinkley, the distribution and warehouse market desperately needs new stock in the vicinity, or occupiers could be forced to look further up the M5, perhaps as far as Bristol.”
