City move for agricultural engineering specialist

A specialist agricultural engineering company is the latest business set to move in soon to Peterborough’s first speculative industrial development for almost a decade in the city’s Eastern Industry district, confirms commercial property agency Barker Storey Matthews.

Horsch UK Ltd, whose German parent company is Horsch Maschinen GmbH, will occupy a brand new detached warehouse at Newark East, Cobblestone Way, Fengate in moving from its current base in Bourne, Lincolnshire where it has been since 2011.

Originally a 1,022 sq m (11,000 sq ft) warehouse unit, additional offices were added to the new-build unit at 6 Newark East to accommodate Horsch UK Ltd’s requirement for a training facility in its new premises which are 1,185 sq m (12,750 sq ft) in total.

Horsch UK Ltd has a headcount of 14 and while its sales force and service engineers are mostly on-the-road, the company has plans to recruit to add to the back office team at its new Newark East headquarters in supporting the training facility and its employees out in the field.

Stephen Burcham, Horsch UK Ltd’s General Manager, began the search for new, bigger premises twelve months ago.  The Newark East development was launched to the market last autumn (2016) and soon attracted his attention.

He explains, “We needed bigger premises having outgrown those in Bourne.  Our upgraded requirements – a self-contained, high specification warehouse unit with ancillary office accommodation – were just not met in local rural locations.  Hence our move to Peterborough which, although very much a city, has good onward road links to key agricultural areas in which our clients operate.”

Barker Storey Matthews is the agent under instruction at Newark East and Richard Jones, a Director based at the Peterborough office, added, “There has been no speculative development scheme in this area of Eastern Industry since 2008.

“The expectation of businesses and how they interact with clients and suppliers has changed markedly in that time.

“In terms of estate layout and calibre of commercial premises on offer at Newark East, the availability of purpose built, industrial, warehouse and distribution units to let is something that occupiers operating these business sectors are keen to see.”
