A ground works and civil engineering merchant has chosen Aberdare in Mid Glamorgan as the location for its first foothold in Wales. Scott Parnell Limited which has further bases in Essex, London and Milton Keynes, has opened a logistics and distribution centre on Hirwaun Industrial Estate with Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) handling the terms of the deal.
Scott Parnell is expanding its UK-wide operation and moved into Unit 10 on the estate in September. The site spans 2.55 acres and includes a portal frame warehouse unit and a large yard area with secure fencing. National commercial property consultancy LSH represented the landlord, a private investor, in negotiating the rent on the 9,327 sq ft site on five-year lease terms.
“We had been looking for premises in Wales for a while and Hirwaun Industiral Estate seems to offer all we need to support our move to and growth within the principality,” says Dave Scott, Director at Scott Parnell. “It’s the ideal property and location for us as it’s on an established business park with excellent transport links in all directions and within 30 miles of both Swansea and Cardiff”.
Scott Parnell offers a wide variety of products and services, operating across a number of sectors from construction companies and utilities operators to rail networks. It supplies heavy drainage and building materials, including hard landscaping, utilities and rail product. Adds Parnell: “This super site in Wales will give us the capacity to develop our people, stocks and transport, so we may increase our coverage and service across Wales as the business continues to grow.
“We set up Scott Parnell in 2012 as felt confident we would fill a gap in the market for a smaller, independent merchant capable of providing a personable service with high levels of ever-changing stock, product knowledge and the flexibility to adapt to market conditions and needs. Today with a loyal customer base and over 1200 product lines in each site, we have a turnover of £22m and employ 40 staff across the UK, with plans to recruit more.”
