Businesses jump in the saddle for North Derbyshire challenge sportive

Derby businesses continue to support Derby’s major cycling sportive event sponsored by Geldards Law Firm.

The event, which takes place on Sunday 18 September, is now in its second year and sees hundreds of cyclists of all ages and abilities taking to the roads around the county.

After the success of the Spring Sportive, Geldards based on Pride Park, will continue as main sponsor for the Challenge and will be working with organisers Cycle Derby and HUUB Events to stage the event.

The North Derbyshire Challenge starts and finishes at Markeaton Park. Riders will take on one of three routes – 40km, 80km or 160km around North Derbyshire and the Peak District.

Geldards will once again sponsor the Business Team Challenge (as well as fielding a team).  This is an opportunity for up to ten colleagues to work together in an attempt to travel the greater distance.  Riders competing in the business challenge have an exclusive hospitality area at Markeaton Park. The team with the greatest total distance will take home the coveted Geldards Business Team Challenge title.

David Williams, Chairman at Geldards said: “We are delighted to be supporting the North Derbyshire Sportive event again this year.

“Cycling is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and Geldards is proud to be supporting an event that will build upon Derby’s ambition to become a cycling city.

“As a proactive member of the Derby business community and a keen cyclist myself, I hope that teams of friends and colleagues will take up the challenge to get on their bikes and crank up some miles.”

“The Spring Classic Business Team Challenge earlier in the year was enjoyed by many, which has been reflected in the response we’ve received for the Challenge this time around. Several members of staff will be competing with their friends, family and colleagues cheering them on.”

The North Derbyshire Sportive has already seen a high volume of individuals sign up to one of three routes on offer aimed at all levels of age and ability. The Geldards Business team challenge has received entries from almost thirty local businesses already, such as sportive co-sponsors Radleigh Homes, Bygott Biggs, University of Derby Corporate and a number of others.

The sporting event will raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre as part of the charity’s 125th anniversary celebration programme so that more underprivileged children can enjoy a seaside holiday in Skegness.
