Colliers International announces new Birmingham head

Jon Cookson, head of Colliers International's Birmingham office

Colliers International has announced Jon Cookson as its new head of the Birmingham office, effective 01 April 2016.

Jon Cookson joined Colliers in 2008 to lead its Corporate Restructuring team and during his time with the firm he has built a team of 20 specialist advisers operating across the UK. He will continue to manage his team whilst taking on the added responsibility of leading the Birmingham office.

“Jon Cookson’s experience and broad network across our UK business makes him well placed to take on the increased responsibility of leading the Birmingham office,” Tony Horrell, UK CEO for Colliers International said.  “Birmingham is our largest office outside of London, with 105 employees and rising, therefore it was essential that we appointed a leader that would possess the entrepreneurial spirit and high integrity that could really make a difference in the region – Jon certainly meets that brief.

“I’d also like to thank John Webber who did an excellent job in the role of interim head of office during this transition period.”

Jon Cookson went on to say: “Colliers’ Birmingham office reported its tenth consecutive year of growth in 2015, so it’s certainly an exciting time to be taking on this role. Birmingham too is going through somewhat of a transformation in terms of property regeneration and, as a business, we possess the full spectrum of property specialisms to make the most of the opportunities that arise, not just in Birmingham but across the Midlands region and beyond. I look forward to working even more closely with our multi-disciplinary teams to drive the business forward.”

Colliers International has been involved in a number of landmark deals in the Midlands recently, including: advising Rigby Group on the sale of Imperial Park at Coventry Airport for £55 million; GLL Real Estate’s acquisition of 1 Brindleyplace from Trinova Real Estate; and, the acquisition of 158 pubs from Punch Taverns on behalf of NewRiver Retail for £53 million – the biggest tenanted pub deal of 2015.
