High Sheriff of Gwent to speak at the City of Newport Business Club

The High Sheriff of Gwent, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Tuggey

The City of Newport Business Club has announced its guest speaker for the 28th January 2016 meeting will be The High Sheriff of Gwent, Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Tuggey.

Whilst undertaking his military service Andrew Tuggey had the privilege to serve with the Gurkha soldiers. He also had the honour of commanding Gwent’s own Regiment, the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia). His last defence appointment was working for the Foreign Office and MOD in the Baltic States as those countries joined NATO and the EU.

During 2015-2016 the High Sheriff’s work will focus on young people, supporting the Gwent High Sheriffs’ Community Fund, a focus which resonates with the Commonwealth theme, ‘A Young Commonwealth’. He plans to take a keen interest in the challenges that face communities in Gwent, including challenges around the empowerment of women and girls; to support and encourage Gwent’s vibrant voluntary sector, and play his part in the important work of Gwent’s ‘Young Dragons’.

Also during his 2015-16 year of office, he wishes to explore what more might be done to involve businesses in Gwent to develop deliverable opportunities for young people as part of the companies’ corporate social responsibilities.

Chairman Dan Goulding said “We are thrilled to have secured The High Sheriff of Gwent to speak at our next meeting. His passion for championing the volunteering sector is well known, as his involvement with Gwent’s Young Dragons which links adult volunteers with Youth Voluntary Organisations and Clubs.”

He continues, “Our guests will be enthralled by his experiences and am sure will come away better informed of his duties and challenges in his role as High Sheriff.”

The meeting takes place at The Celtic Manor Resort on Thursday 28th January 2016 commencing at 5.30pm.

The ticketed event is open to all business people and tickets cost £30.
