CBRE Graduate celebrates outstanding success

Sophie Angus, a Graduate Surveyor in property firm CBRE’s Leeds Valuation team, is celebrating outstanding success after receiving double MSc Distinctions and an award for her dissertation, which the University of Northumbria is working with her to publish.

Earlier this year, Sophie completed her MSc Real Estate degree and was awarded distinction. As part of her degree, she submitted a dissertation based on the impact of appeals on the Business Rates Retention scheme in Leeds, and received an 80% mark. Following this success, the University of Northumbria has asked Sophie to work with them over the forthcoming months to turn her dissertation into an article with a view to it being published in an academic journal.

In addition, Sophie won the Ward Hadaway Prize for the best MSc Real Estate Dissertation at Northumbria University. The award was presented after her graduation ceremony which took place at the University of Northumbria earlier this week.

Sophie commented; “I am thrilled that my work has been recognised in this way and it’s incredibly exciting to think that my dissertation may result in a published journal article. I am already putting into practice my academic theory in my role at CBRE and look forward to building on this in the future.”

Dr Paul Greenhalgh, Reader and Faculty Director of Research Ethics at Northumbria University, said;

“Sophie was awarded a Distinction for both her dissertation and her MSc in Real Estate in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment. Our external examiners commended her work, especially the way that she handled such a complex and technically demanding topic so adeptly.  As Sophie’s dissertation supervisor I can confirm that her Masters dissertation has generated some important and genuinely useful findings that we are hopeful will be published as an academic journal paper in the future.”

Michael Porter, Senior Director for Valuation at CBRE’s Leeds office, said;

“We are delighted to hear of Sophie’s recent outstanding achievements. Since joining the Valuation team earlier this year, Sophie has already proven to be a real asset to the company, and we look forward to seeing her hard work published in the coming months.”
