New light to be brought to Gorsey Bank with multi-million pound development

Stockport Council is transforming the former Gorsey Bank site in Cheadle Heath into a modern industrial park bringing new jobs and opportunities to Stockport.

To be known as Aurora Stockport, the development will see a multi-million pound investment made by the Council as it brings an important area of Stockport back to life as a key employment site.  Creating 154,500 sq ft of brand new industrial space, Aurora Stockport forms an important part of Stockport Council’s Investing in Stockport programme which aims to see the borough become an even better place to live, work and visit.

From its prominent and convenient location close to Junction 1 of the M60, Aurora Stockport will offer light industrial units ranging from 8,700 sq ft to 47,000 sq ft, making it ideal for growing businesses looking for their next home.

Stockport continues to enjoy high demand for quality industrial units due to the town’s exceptional connectivity and workforce.  This popularity has seen other local developments quickly become fully let, and it is on the back of this success that the Council has chosen to proceed with the development.

A planning application for the new estate has been submitted and it is hoped construction will start in Spring 2016 with the first units being available from early 2017.

Cllr Patrick McAuley, Executive Member for Thriving Economy at Stockport Council said: “I am pleased to announce that the Council is proceeding with the development of Aurora Stockport.  The opportunities that this transformation will bring for both local residents and the business community are significant as well as creating well over 240 new jobs locally.

“This news comes at an exciting time for our town.  Work on some of our flagship regeneration developments has now begun and Holiday Inn Express has just announced they will be opening a hotel in our town centre as part of Stockport Exchange.”

Aurora Stockport is a key project in the Council’s ambitious ‘Investing in Stockport’ programme that will see a range of Growth projects delivered across Stockport, building on the town’s strengths to make it an even better place to live, work and visit. The Growth work will see £900 million invested into Stockport over the coming years by the Council and its partners.  Estimates predict this work will bring at least 5,000 new jobs and 1,100 new homes to Stockport, for the benefit of residents and businesses.

Carillion and CBRE are advising on the development, with CBRE appointed as agents for the scheme.
