XYZ Spinningfields goes Global

Allied London has announced its first tenant to contract for its XYZ building in Spinningfields, Manchester.

Global, the media & entertainment group, will occupy 16,699 sq. ft. across the top two floors of the building, consolidating its two current offices in Salford Quays.

Among its interests, Global is home to the UK’s three biggest commercial radio brands Capital, Heart and Classic FM and the country’s only commercial news talk station LBC.  The group will establish its new hub in the north-west at XYZ Spinningfields when the building opens in the autumn of 2016.

XYZ Spinningfields is a building aimed deliberately at defining a new asset class of workspace particularly for the TMT sector and forward-thinking corporates.

Some 20 per cent of the XYZ building will be amenity space, from all day dining to independent coffee hubs, co-work space, event and conference space, screening and cinema room, terraces and garden together with a bike park and personal fitness studio.

XYZ’s active amenity offerings will path the way for a collaborative and creative environment for tenants as well as visitors to the XYZ community and will facilitate innovative networking, thinking and developing.

Global’s bespoke fit-out will include state-of-the-art broadcasting studios with Capital and Heart set to broadcast live from XYZ.

Stephen Miron, Global’s group CEO, said: “The XYZ building is a great fit for Global’s culture offering a dynamic workplace.  We are delighted to be Allied London’s first signing and we look forward to moving into our new home in the heart of Spinningfields.”

Commenting on the deal, Michael Ingall, chief executive of Allied London, said: “XYZ is a concept that we have dedicated years of design and research to. We identified the future of workspace requirements three years ago and developed a capability ‎to develop this type of building, through our platforms, Hello Work and Capital Properties.

“This is our second major TMT solution this year with the recent announcement by Sky to adopt Leeds Docks for their Northern technology hub. We are delighted that our corporate vision set two years ago is being realised and wheels are in motion to launch our second XYZ Building at Leeds Dock.

“We have several other parties in detailed negotiations for XYZ, all of whom understand the concept and are able to define the difference in the XYZ workspace offering.

“Global have really grasped the concept of XYZ and we look forward to seeing how they engage with XYZ.”
