Future generations of chartered surveyors from RICS Matrics Bristol and West Country recently met for their annual dinner at Bristol Zoo to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.

The society, which supports graduates and chartered surveyors up to 10 years post qualification, offers members the opportunity to establish new contacts within the city’s rapidly expanding commercial property sector.

Colliers International’s Jessica Jones has chaired the Bristol and West Country committee since last year, assisted by Gemma Daly as vice chair.

Head of Office Tim Davies said: “The Bristol office has maintained close connections with RICS Matrics over the years in order to give our rising stars a flying start in a business sector which depends to a great extent on effective networking and good contacts.

“We are extremely proud of the work Jessica and Gemma have done in keeping RICS Matrics members up to speed within what is a rapidly evolving sector.”

The committee organises a number of events throughout the year including networking opportunities and CPD sessions.

As well as the annual dinner, the branch recently organised a successful inter-professional networking event aboard The Matthew and a wine tasting at Averys Wine Cellars.

The next event is a series of CPD Sessions on September 16, designed for those about to sit the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence exam.

Current Chair Jessica Jones said: “RICS Matrics provides invaluable support for young surveyors in the local market and we run an array of fantastic events throughout the year. Our membership has increased dramatically this year, a sign of the improving market – we are always looking for new members to get involved.”
