Racing season off to a flying start for Chepstow businessman

The racing season is off to a flying start for Chepstow businessman, Nick Jones, who had a busy weekend competing in no less than four races at Donington Park in Leicestershire.

Nick, director of SD Sealants & Cosmetic Repair, the UK’s leading sealant specialists, competed as a solo driver in two races in the highly competitive Radical Sprint series last Saturday. He then teamed up with racing partner Scott Malvern, a former UK Formula Ford and Formula Renault Champion on the Sunday for two longer races in the Radical Enduro Championship.

The SD director has had a long-standing passion for racing, having competed in the Formula Ford 1600 for 13 years.

Qualifying fifth on the Saturday, Nick ran as high as second position in hard fought race one which eventually saw him come in fourth place. Better was to come in race two as Nick was in a four man scrap for the lead, getting his nose in front briefly before finishing in a splendid second place in a battle that he clearly enjoyed.

Nick commented afterwards “I was pleased with that. A big thank you to all the guys in the team for helping me to get to the sharp end”

On the Sunday Nick and Scott qualified in pole and fourth positions for the two Sunday afternoon Endurance races, with Scott handling the first stint of race one and maintaining the race lead and lowering the lap record in the process.

The solid points scored at the weekend meant the pairing are very close to the Cockill brothers in the battle for the championship lead.

Nick commented afterwards “It’s been both an encouraging and at times frustrating weekend but I don’t think any of us could have worked any harder to achieve better results and we now very much have to focus on our next event in four weeks’ time at Rockingham. A very big thank you to Kevin Mills, to Scott and all of the team this weekend for all of their excellent hard work”
