Fit for business!

Former Welsh Rugby International and British & Irish Lion Gareth Cooper is taking on a new challenge and is moving into the business world with the launch of an online fitness business.

Wellfit Direct, launched in October 2010, supplies high quality fitness, exercise, and gym equipment from the World’s leading brands – including Jordan, Polar, Perfect Fitness and Maxi Muscle.

The business came about after Gareth was forced to take a break from rugby following medical advice to rest a groin injury. This time away from rugby has, however, allowed him to concentrate on starting up and developing the business over the past year.

“Taking a break from rugby forced me to consider what I want to do after my career on the field has ended, and after consideration I decided I’d like to stick with what I know!” said Cooper.

“Fitness and Conditioning was obviously important to me during my playing career, and I’ve watched its importance increase as the modern, professional game has developed. You only have to look at the fantastic performances Wales put in during the World Cup to see the benefit of top-class conditioning. Wales were probably the fittest team in the competition, allowing them to play high-tempo and exciting rugby.”

“The current crop of players, have pace, power and intensity, and this Welsh team has the potential to be world-beaters over the coming years. I would put them as favourites for the 2012 Six Nations title – and a potential Grand Slam side.” Cooper added. “It’s a very exciting time for these players, and what is so impressive is their devotion to being in the best physical condition they can possibly be.”

Gareth knows what it takes to get to the very pinnacle of the game, having enjoyed a hugely successful career in rugby which included 46 caps for his country – making his debut in 2001 against Italy and appearing in the 2003 and 2007 World Cups. His selection for the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand in 2005 another high-point in an exceptional career.

He also had a successful club career playing for Bath, Celtic Warriors, Newport Gwent Dragons, Gloucester and Cardiff Blues.

He hopes to replicate this success on the rugby field with a similarly successful business and Gareth, along with his colleagues, have used all their experience and knowledge as professional sportsmen to set up Wellfit-Direct.

“I hope to get back playing, but have to be realistic that I am approaching the end of my career. Sport has been my life, and it is great to continue that interest with the launch of this business – but don’t expect to see me in a suit and tie just yet!”

The company supplies a wealth of products including cardiovascular equipment, vibration machines, free weights, outdoor training and nutrition. All products are supplied for both home and commercial users. Alongside the provision of fitness equipment, Wellfit also use their wealth of professional sporting knowledge to offer fitness tips and training advice.
