Council and WSX Poole resources

Budding entrepreneurs in Poole can now benefit from ‘New in Business’ two-day workshops run by WSX Enterprise – thanks to funding from Borough of Poole.

The new money has been provided by the council’s Economic Development team and is aimed at assisting new enterprises to survive and thrive.

The workshops have been specially developed by WSX Enterprise, one of Dorset’s business support services, to provide essential guidance to people who are starting out in business.

Those who attend the workshops should either live or intend to trade within the borough.

Workshop delegates are eligible for one-on-one adviser meetings with experts from WSX Enterprise, and can also apply for small grants, courtesy of Borough of Poole.

Chris Darlow, WSX Enterprise Manager for Dorset, said: “Our courses and workshops have been formulated to specifically assist businesses in their early stages and both Borough of Poole and WSX recognise the value of a quality support programme.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of the economy and it’s essential that people can access ‘real world’ advice and guidance at an early stage.

“The funding received from Borough of Poole will enable us to run workshops from April through to November and assist people in the borough to turn their ideas into sustainable enterprises.

“Registration is completed via a simple online process and we’d love to hear from those who have started a new business or are thinking of starting one.”

Councillor Elaine Atkinson, Leader of the Council, Borough of Poole, said: “The council is committed to helping start-up businesses get the skills and experience they need for their business to thrive.

“Our Pop-Up shop is proving a real hit with new businesses looking to test out new ideas and products in a high street location and, together with the valuable knowledge and advice gained at these workshops, we hope more people will be inspired to set up their own businesses.”

Adrian Trevett, Economic Development Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this exciting initiative.

“These workshops can be of huge benefit to people considering setting up their own businesses and new businesses looking for some help and advice.

“The support provided over the two days could make a real difference in helping a business take-off.”
