Leading law firm Geldards has joined the team at Cardiff Devils by becoming the Ice Hockey club’s legal advisers.
Geldards, which has over 350 staff and is based in Cardiff includes a specialist sports law team, and will provide advice to the Devils on a wide range of legal matters including commercial contracts, employment, property, intellectual property and corporate deals.
Paul Hopkins, a senior partner at Geldards explained: “Cardiff Devils has been a leading name in British ice hockey for almost thirty years and we’re thrilled to be linked with one of Wales’ most successful sporting teams.”
Along with providing legal advice, Geldards is also set to sponsor the Devils, which will include a presence on the club’s website as well as rink boards for their home games at Cardiff Arena, also known to ice hockey fans as the Big Blue Tent.
The Devils will move to a new £16m 3,000-seat ice arena at Cardiff Bay’s International Sports Village later this year with Geldards set to handle the legal work involved in the switch.
Geldards has long been associated with sport and is proud to have acted for many high profile sports organisations across the UK including British Boxing Board of Control, Cardiff Blues, Cardiff RFC, Derby County Football Club, Hull City Football Club and the Welsh Rugby Union to name but a few.
Geldards also operates a specialist sports management company – engagesport, which specialises in advising professional athletes, rights holders, sports business solutions and many businesses who invest in sport through commercial sponsorship and other arrangements.
