Bridgend construction firm builds on employee engagement with new recruit

One of Wales’ largest family-run construction and property firms has appointed a new HR Strategic Business Manager following a period of growth.

Bridgend-based Jehu Group, which specialises in construction contracting and commercial and residential development, has employed Gwilym Hughes to manage the Group’s ambitions to become the employer of choice in the sector.

Gwilym (48) from Mumbles in Swansea joins Jehu with over 20 years’ experience as a HR manager, the last 13 of which was spent within the automotive manufacturing sector. At Jehu he will be tasked with the development of new HR programmes and initiatives including the introduction of an employee engagement survey.

The keen cyclist and father-of-two said:

“I am delighted to join at a time of unprecedented growth for the business. It’s refreshing to see how much the directors acknowledge the benefit a senior HR resource can bring to an established organisation and I’m looking forward to introducing and enhancing current processes. “

The business has increased staff numbers to 110 following recent growth with new contracts including household brands JD Wetherspoon, Whitbread and Morrisons. In addition, it has secured a project worth £5.6m to build a 60-bed care home for Grwp Gwalia.

Simon Jehu, Managing Director of Development said:

“We have invested significantly in training and development in recent years as we firmly believe that world-class performance depends on a motivated, highly engaged team. We are thrilled to welcome Gwilym to the team, as his wealth of experience will help cement our commitment to employee engagement and becoming the employer of choice”
