Strawson swoops at St Marks Shopping Centre unit for UK gym giant

Lincoln-based retail and leisure specialist Chartered Surveyor Tom Strawson has successfully acquired space at St Marks Shopping Centre for the UK’s leading discount gym operator – in a move which promises to create fifteen new jobs.

Mr Strawson, who works for Banks Long & Co, has secured first floor premises (Unit 16) for Pure Gym.  This unit was previously occupied by Sports Direct, which has simultaneously relocated to the former JJB unit in the St Marks Scheme as
part of the deal.

“I am delighted to have secured this unit for Pure Gym,  which I have no doubt will allow them to run an exceptionally successful gym operation,” said Mr Strawson.

“The St Marks Shopping Centre location is first class for Pure Gym’s model. Not only is it within walking distance for city centre residents and working professionals, but it is also less than 100 yards from the main University of Lincoln campus. Pure Gym expects a large proportion of its customer base to be made up of students.”

Will Roberts, Property Acquisitions Director of the Pure Gym Group said:  “We identified Lincoln as a target area some time ago and we are delighted to have secured a great unit in Standard Life’s St Marks scheme.

“Lincoln is a city that has clearly seen significant inward investment over the last decade and there is no doubt that the university has become more popular with students and benefitted from investment too.

“We’re excited to be able to offer the area a superb 24-hour gym, with no contract, all from only £10.99 per month – it will be a great addition to our estate.”

Pure Gym is currently on-site carrying out a significant fit-out programme. It plans to open its doors in February 2015.
