Colliers Secures Joint Agency Role on Iconic Fort Dunlop

Colliers International’s National Offices team has secured the joint agency position with GVA on behalf of Urban Splash to market the iconic Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, one of the largest regenerated, mixed use schemes outside London.

The building was redeveloped by Urban Splash in 2006 and brought with it 300,000 sq ft of grade A office space, ranging from 1,000 sq ft to 53,000 sq ft across seven floors. The building also offers 45,000 sq ft of retail space, including an onsite gym as well as a coffee shop and has remained more than 95 per cent occupied since its completion.

A longstanding icon, its heritage dates back to its days as the factory and office of Dunlop Rubber. The company was sold in the 80s meaning Fort Dunlop stood derelict for more than 20 years until Urban Splash completed its transformation, bringing many high profile national and Midlands based businesses to the building, including Capita, Trinity Mirror, Inspired Thinking Group and Green Room Retail.

Matt Long, Director of National Offices, Colliers International commented: “Fort Dunlop is one of Birmingham’s landmarks, with immediately available units of 1,000 sq ft to 25,000 sq ft and flexible lease structures, it’s an unrivalled office location for any business. As expected, the units are in high demand due to the property’s proximity to Birmingham’s city centre and local transport links.

“The renovation of this property is a huge boost in the regeneration of the Midlands and it’s great to see this once redundant building put to good use.”

Emily Handslip, Urban Splash said: “We are incredibly proud of Fort Dunlop and its role in creating a commercial hub for national and regional businesses. The consistent level of occupancy is testament to what Urban Splash has created and this year alone we’ve secured in excess of 30,000 sq ft of deals with tenants expanding their space there. Our flexibility as a landlord enables us to do this well and in partnering with likeminded agents, I look forward to welcoming more great businesses to the building.”
